Caroline Jones and Charles Matthews

Caroline and Charles have an international reputation as performers and teachers. Their concerts feature a fascinating range of  renaissance, baroque and contemporary music suitable for venues of all sizes.

Charles Matthews studied at the Royal College of Music, London, and as an organ scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge. Charles pursues a varied career as pianist, organist, harpsichordist, composer and teacher, performing and broadcasting for radio and television in the UK and internationally. He has won numerous awards, most notably the first prize in the Franz Liszt Memorial Competition in Budapest. His recordings have been issued by Olympia, Guild, Touch and Priory. Charles also works extensively with children and is an organ tutor at Birmingham Conservatoire. Charles has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, London; Forbidden City Concert Hall, Beijing with Emma Kirkby and at Steinway Hall, London with Caroline Jones.

Concerts are given on recorders (sopranino, descant, treble, tenor, bass and great bass) with piano, harpsichord/spinet or organ accompaniment. The musicians’ own spinet may be used if required. If programmes include viol we are usually joined by Alison Crum.

Concerts include London International Festival of Early Music, Steinway Hall, London, tours of Norway and Germany and many UK venues and Welsh concerts as part of the Night Out Scheme.
